National Book Week 2023
Characters came to life at Iona during National Book Week!
Running from Monday 21 - Friday 25 August, students from across the College participated in an endless amount of activities excellently organised by our incredible staff.
The College was abound in festival decorations; from staff book recommendations in the Solais, to the Harry Potter theme playing over the intercom, to the National Book Week slogan, 'Read, Learn, Grow' displayed on the lawn!
Authors of all kinds of books visited our students, discussing their processes for writing, drawing, and creating ideas for publication - with our Ionian writers asking as many questions as they could absorb from the professionals. Students also enjoyed focused lessons in class, where they designed book covers, wrote short stories, and analysed writing styles and narrative choices in great literature classics.
The highlight of the week was the culmination of the girls' creativity and passion - The Book Week Dress-up Parade. Dressing as their favourite book characters, students modelled their costumes in the Sports Centre and posed on stage, performing in character to the attendees of the Market Day. The craftsmanship of some of these costumes cannot be understated; from brilliant butterflies, to murderous Macbeth's, to perfect Mary Poppins', each student brought their own personal flair to the parade. Staff also enjoyed the dress-up day, with crazy crayons and colourful sheep teaching the students' lessons!
A special thank you to all the Library staff for their fantastic work coordinating what was a stupendous week - we look forward to seeing how you make it even better for 2024!
