Junior School Academics
Encouraging play, laughter and learning through a broad and balanced Curriculum.
After completing the Early Years (Pre-Kindy to Year 2), students commence Year 3. At this stage of development, your child's world is expanding, and they are interested in and speculating about other times, places, people and societies. Different points of view begin to be appreciated and children begin to develop their ability to think in more abstract terms and focus for longer.
Our dynamic Curriculum provides opportunities for students to work collaboratively in activities that involve decision making and group planning, as well as building on skills of responsibility and individual organisation.
Literacy and Numeracy are treated as priority areas for our dedicated teachers, knowing that these areas underpin learning across the Curriculum for years to come. Our Learning Enhancement Team ensure assistance is provided in class for children who require additional learning support, and our Academic Enrichment Coordinator provides programs which aim to identify strengths and extend able students beyond the Curriculum.
Students study core disciplines of English, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS), Science (with a STEM focus - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Religious Education and Health and Physical Education. Alongside these courses, Junior School students engage in a number of specialist areas which includes Dance and Drama, Digital Technologies, Languages (French), Library, Music and Visual Art.
Religious Education
In the Junior School, Religious Education is part of the daily Curriculum for all students. Formal Religious Education lessons are based on the Western Australian Religious Education units of work produced by Catholic Education Western Australia. Topics covered for each year level include important Sacraments, Prayer, Bible, Church, Jesus, Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas. The knowledge component of this learning is assessed and included on semester reports.
The College supports parents in the sacramental and faith development of their child through sacramental programs. Children are prepared at school for the Sacrament of Penance in Year 3, Eucharist in Year 4 and Confirmation in Year 6 and receive the Sacraments in accordance with Archdiocese of Perth guidelines and in collaboration with the local Parish.
Health & Physical Education
Developing knowledge, understanding and skills for leading healthy, safe and active lives forms the basis of the Curriculum in Health and Physical Education in the Junior years. Students participate in activities which emphasise fair play and inclusion, enhance fitness, protective behaviours, practice and refine fundamental movement skills and build knowledge of rules and scoring systems. The program includes swimming, athletics, cross country and other major and minor games.

Language
Language learning broadens students' horizons to include all the possibilities that an interconnected world presents. Continuing from the Early Childhood program, it is recognised that students learn another language through rich language input. The French program from Years 3 to 6 builds on vocabulary and conversation skills, as well as developing students' abilities to interpret a range of texts and other stimuli.
