Senior School Sport

Sport is integral to the fabric of Iona Presentation College.

Whether an athlete or a spectator, our students fully embrace the many sporting opportunities on offer. The passion, dedication, enthusiasm and sheer talent that our students display is truly inspiring, and their commitment to having a go and supporting one another is a credit to each and every one of them.

IGSSA

Iona is a member of the Independent Girls' Schools' Sports Association (IGSSA), which offers regular Co-curricular sporting competitions and carnivals. This provides quality sporting opportunities for students participating at different levels of competition in the pursuit of a healthy, active lifestyle. Member schools of the IGSSA competitions are: Iona Presentation College, Methodist Ladies' College (MLC), Penrhos College, Perth College, Presbyterian Ladies' College (PLC), Santa Maria College, St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls and St Mary's Anglican Girls' School.

In addition to carnivals for Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming, the IGSSA Interschool competition in the Senior School is played regularly during after-school hours. Operating all year round and offering different sports at various levels each term, this competition is an excellent way for students to engage in physical activity, enjoy the camaraderie and friendship found in team sports, and potentially unlock a new passion – all at a level suitable to their experience and ability.

Iona Swim Training

We are thrilled to partner with Hooked Swim who run their training programs from the Iona Aquatic Centre, with a focus on developing water confidence, technique and speed for swimmers at all stages.

The more advanced swimmers have the opportunity to attend the Highlanders Swimming Club, which provides a competitive pathway for those with aspirations to compete at a Club, State, National or International level.

Sport Co-curricular

In addition to the opportunity for Co-curricular involvement in the various IGSSA sporting teams, the following Co-curricular groups provide additional time for health and fitness:

  • Strength and Conditioning Facilities: 1 weights room and 1 cardio room. A trainer visits twice a week to educate students on how to correctly train in a gym and how to write fitness programs.
  • Running Club: A casual run with friends once a week.
  • Mindfulness Club
