Junior School Faith and Service

At Iona, we empower our students with religious knowledge so that they can understand Catholic beliefs and teachings in an age-appropriate way - creative, innovative and with a ‘head, heart and hands’ pedagogical approach.

We emphasise to our students that their participation in Religious Education will assist them to grow into the young Presentation people God intended, by helping them develop spiritually, academically, physically, morally and emotionally.

In the Junior School, Religious Education is part of the daily Curriculum for all students. Formal Religious Education lessons are based on the Western Australian Religious Education units of work produced by Catholic Education Western Australia. Topics covered for each year level include important Sacraments, Prayer, Bible, Church, Jesus, Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas. The knowledge component of this learning is assessed and included on semester reports.

The College supports parents in the sacramental and faith development of their child through sacramental programs. Students are prepared for the Sacrament of Penance in Year 3, Eucharist in Year 4 and Confirmation in Year 6 at school. Students receive the Sacraments in accordance with Archdiocese of Perth guidelines and in collaboration with the local Parish.

Additionally, Junior School students are exposed to diverse faith and service opportunities through prayer, Masses and Liturgies, mission drives and social justice outreach.
