Emerging Artist Award Winner!
After one of its biggest competition years to date, the City of South Perth has announced the winners of its 2025 Emerging Artist Award. With more than 250 entries from across Western Australia, the Practical Arts Department are thrilled to share that Year 10 Visual Arts student Ella W. (10 Kildare) has won the Secondary School Artist Award, sponsored by Preston Street IGA, for her pen and pencil on paper artwork titled 'School Memories'.
"My artwork 'School memories' is a depiction of my White Gum Valley Primary School dress. White Gum Valley Primary School played a pivotal role in shaping my identity. My primary school was where I first discovered my love for drawing and art.
I used graphite and Prisma coloured pencils to create this work. These mediums allowed me to capture both the repeated check pattern in detail, as well as the texture and folds of the fabric.
My drawing stands as a tribute to the lasting impact of early education and the environments that nurture our creativity and growth." - Ella regarding her beautiful art piece.
Judges commented that "The overall standard of the exhibition reflects a promising and thriving Perth emerging art scene". Congratulations, Ella, who received a $1000 cash prize for her winning artwork.
The exhibition runs from Friday 10 October to Saturday 18 October at the South Perth Community Hall and features workshops, talks and events for artists and the community.
