CREATE Showcase 2025: Kaleidoscope

27 November 2025

The 2025 CREATE Showcase opened with the Iona community stepping into a world alive with colour, pattern, and imagination. This year's theme, Kaleidoscope, could not have been more fitting. Just as a kaleidoscope transforms fragments of glass into dazzling designs through light, our students transformed ideas, materials, experimentation, and creative risks into artworks that glowed with individuality and brilliance.

The exhibition celebrated the incredible variety and technical skill  of our students. Across Design, Media, Textiles, and Visual Arts, students' pieces shone brightly, each one illuminated by the creative spark within them. While families and guests moved through the space, admiring the final works, visitors also enjoyed delicious food prepared by our Year 10 Food Technology students and staff, adding to the warm and festive atmosphere.

Excitement swept through the crowd as our Fashion and Textiles students stepped onto the red carpet runway. One by one, the girls proudly presented their handmade garments—unique expressions of texture, shape, colour, and imagination. From Year 7's first explorations with fabric to the refined and technically advanced work of our senior students, the runway became a living timeline of learning, growth, and artistic courage.  Our girls walked with confidence, showcasing garments that reflected  developing skill and creativity.

A highlight of the night was the presentation of the CREATE Awards. These Awards were presented to students who consistently demonstrate passion, curiosity, enthusiasm, and a generous commitment to our creative community.

Throughout the evening, the atmosphere remained joyful and celebratory. Friends and families marvelled at the breadth of work on display, and teachers beamed with pride. While visitors admired the polished final pieces, our staff reflected on the journeys behind them, the brainstorming, media testing, experimentation, problem-solving, and the resilience shown when challenges emerged. Witnessing these moments of growth is one of the great privileges of teaching, and our Technology and Applied Studies o and Practical Arts staff worked tirelessly to bring this special event together.

Gratitude filled the room: gratitude for the parents who champion their daughters' creative pursuits and recognise the importance of the Arts in a holistic education; for our dedicated staff who guide each project from idea to completion; and above all, for our exceptional students, whose imagination is at the heart of CREATE.

The 2025 CREATE Showcase was, indeed, a true Kaleidoscope, vibrant, inspiring, and full of light. We are incredibly proud of all our students and look forward to seeing what brilliance they bring to life next year.
